Nobody ever spoke of old Spot's master as "old Johnnie Green." Yet the two boys and dog were almost exactly the same age. Somehow Spot grew up faster than Johnnie. He had stopped being a puppy by the time his young master learned to walk. And when Johnnie was big enough to play around the farm buildings his parents felt sure that he was safe so long as "old Spot," as they called the dog, was with him.

He also discovered that these rays could be made to take a shadow photograph on a sensitive plate without even exposing the plate in the usual way. Soon after the announcement of Prof. Roentgen’s discovery, apparatus was devised for seeing with the naked eye the image formed by the shadow of the X Rays. Prof. Salvioni constructed such a device and described it before the Rome Medical Society as early as February 8, 1896.

It was said that a new person had appeared on the seafront: a lady with a little dog. Dmitri Dmitritch Gurov, who had by then been a fortnight at Yalta, and so was fairly at home there, had begun to take an interest in new arrivals. She was walking alone, always wearing the same béret, and always with the same white dog; no one knew who she was, and everyone called her simply "the lady with the dog."

His boat, his diving gear were gone, smashed to bits by the wildness of the storm which had washed him ashore on this tiny speck of an island. As strength flowed back into the man’s body, he sat up. Handball is another game that has grown into popularity in the United States. It is said to have originated in Ireland, where regular courts are built for it, and a medium ball, with good bounding qualities, is the best for this game. The player throws the ball on the ground and in the bound he strikes it with the palm of his hand, sending it against the wall, above the three-foot line.

Ah, but they were a happy family!
